At Katikati Primary we are always looking for new and cutting-edge ways to enhance children’s learning. We have recently been granted $48,000 for a proposal we put forward to the Ministry of Education as part of their Teacher Led Innovation Fund. The money we have been granted will be put towards a project where teachers will develop a Growth Mindset with the children. This means that children will increase their resilience, participation and engagement which are all needed to be successful learners. Although high quality literacy and numeracy programmes are important for the children, learning is an active process and therefore developing these skills is essential if the children are to achieve to their maximum potential. The project which will begin in Term 4 2016, will take 18 months to complete. An expert in innovative learning from the Mindlab in Auckland will be working alongside us, teachers will be attending Growth Mindset professional development and an advisor from the University of Waikato will be helping us to track the progress we are making. This is an amazing opportunity for our school and we are looking forward to providing greater opportunities for our children.
